How to Measure a Social Media Campaign: 6 Metrics That Matter

You measure a Social Media Campaign by comparing the results to the goal you set before it started. If the goal was leads, count leads and what each one cost. If it was bookings, count bookings. Everything else is supporting information.

Many Dubai and Sharjah businesses track the wrong numbers, so they cannot tell whether a campaign worked. Here are the six metrics that matter, and how to use them.

Why Likes and Followers Are Not Enough

Likes and follower counts show attention, not results. A post can get thousands of likes and bring no enquiries, while a quiet ad can bring ten bookings. Use reach and engagement to understand why something worked, not to decide whether it did.

The 6 Metrics That Matter

1. Leads

A lead is someone who takes a step toward buying: a form, a call, a booking request or a WhatsApp message. Count all of them, not just form submissions. In the UAE, many leads arrive on WhatsApp Business, so track those clicks and chats.

2. Cost Per Lead

Divide your ad spend by the number of leads. If you spent AED 1,000 and got 20 leads, your cost per lead is AED 50 (this is an example, not a benchmark). Compare it to what a customer is worth to you.

3. Conversion Rate

This is the share of leads that become customers. A cheap lead that never buys is not cheap. Track how many leads turn into bookings or sales, and ask your sales team about lead quality.

4. Cost Per Booking or Sale

Divide your total campaign cost by the number of bookings or sales. This is the number that tells you if the campaign paid for itself.

5. Click-Through Rate (CTR)

CTR shows how many people who saw your ad clicked it. A low CTR usually means the image, video or message is not catching attention. Test a new creative before you change the whole campaign.

6. Response Time

How fast you reply to comments and messages affects how many leads you keep. Check it weekly. A slow reply can lose a lead that the ad already paid for.

How to Set Up Tracking

  • Add the Meta Pixel and conversion events to your website.
  • Use UTM links on every link you post, so you know which post or ad sent each visitor.
  • Use click-to-WhatsApp ads or a tracked WhatsApp link, and note where each chat started.
  • Ask every new customer how they found you, and record the answer.
  • Review results in Meta Business Suite and your ad accounts at least once a week.

When to Change a Social Media Campaign

Give a campaign time to learn. Paid campaigns usually need two to four weeks before the data is reliable. Then act on what you see:

  • High reach, low clicks: Change the creative or message.
  • High clicks, low leads: Check the landing page or form. It may be too slow or too long.
  • Many leads, few sales: Review lead quality, audience and follow-up speed.
  • Good results: Raise the budget slowly and keep testing.
